History

Katy was founded by settlers from Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois, who harnessed rice as the cash crop to bring unparalleled growth. Later came the building after a gas field discovery well in the area, which spiked the population. To this day, Katy remains a popular place to live for those who work in the neighboring Energy Corridor or take advantage of the convenient Metro shuttle to a Downtown office.

Schools

Houstonians will be hard-pressed to find a school district as robust as Katy Independent School District. Every year, Katy ISD schools rake in awards from U.S. News, Newsweek, and Niche, a data analysis site run by the Department of Education. The most famous Katy ISD graduate is Renée Zellweger, who graduated from Katy High School in 1987.

Katy Mills Mall

Katy Mills Mall is the epicenter of outlet shopping with more than 200 specialty stores right off I-10. Address your retail therapy with high-end shops like Coach and Kate Spade or more casual brands like Banana Republic and Nike Factory.

La Centerra

In the heart of Cinco Ranch adjacent to the Grand Parkway sits La Centerra, a bustling mixed-use collection of shops, offices, restaurants, and apartments. With a Trader Joe’s and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on-site, there isn’t a resident in Katy who doesn’t frequent this eclectic use of space.

Drix Restaurant

Patrons can choose which side they prefer to dine in at Drix: the upbeat, all-audiences side with games and a playground or the adults-only lounge with the trendy bar and a serene ambiance. Mediterranean-inspired bites and tasty cocktails are offered no matter where you end up sitting. 

No Label Brewery

Family-owned and housed in a former rice silo is No Label Brewery. Saturdays at this beloved beer headquarters in Old Katy are filled with food trucks and live music, providing the perfect atmosphere to unwind.
